Malkawi99
About me
My name is Aref Malkawi (also know as Aref M. Al-Ali) — my full name is Aref Mohammad Aref Al-Ali, though I often go by "Malkawi99" on Wikimedia projects. I was born on September 1, 1999, in Amman, Jordan. I have been an active contributor to Arabic Wikipedia, English Wikipedia, and Wikimedia Commons since 2018. I have authored and translated many articles across topics such as literature, history, cinema, politics, music, philosophy, sports, and geography. I am deeply passionate about knowledge sharing, language, and cultural heritage. Academically, I hold a Master of Arts in Linguistics, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and its Literature. Professionally, I work at Amazon.com as a Machine Learning Data Associate. Throughout my journey, I have also participated in Wikimedia and community initiatives. Beyond editing and research, I enjoy translation, writing, painting, and engaging with diverse cultures. Wikimedia projects have been, and continue to be, a place where my love for languages and knowledge meets my desire to contribute to open access information for all.
My work
Currently, I serve as a part-time lecturer at the University of Jordan, teaching English language courses with a focus on developing students' proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. My role involves designing and delivering lectures, preparing course materials, creating and grading assessments, and mentoring students to help them achieve academic success. In parallel, I work at Amazon.com as a Machine Learning Data Associate. I contribute to the development of AI models, including Alexa and Large Language Models (LLMs), through accurate data annotation and labeling. Notably, our team achieved a milestone by enabling Arabic language support for Alexa devices.
