Français : Le canton de Genève (GE - Genf en allemand - Ginevra en italien - Genevra en romanche - Geneva en anglais) est un canton de Suisse de superficie modeste mais densément peuplé. Il est sité à l'extrémité ouest de la Suisse et du lac Léman et entouré presque entièrement par la France. Son chef-lieu est la ville de Genève.
Deutsch: Der Kanton Genf ist ein Kanton im Südwesten der Schweiz. Der Kanton Genf bildet den südwestlichen Zipfel der Schweiz. Er ist fast völlig von Frankreich umgeben (103 km Grenze) und hat nur eine 4.5 km lange Grenze zum Schweizer Kanton Waadt. Der Kanton befindet sich am südwestlichen Ende des Genfersees, am Ausfluss der Rhône Richtung Mittelmeer. Der zweite wichtige Fluss ist die Arve, die von Chamonix kommend sich in Genf mit der Rhône vereint. Der Kanton liegt im „Genfer Becken“ („cuvette genevoise“) zwischen den vier höchsten Gipfeln der Gebirgskette des Jura und den französischen Bergen Vuache, Salève und Voirons. Den höchsten Punkt (517,7 m ü. M.) ist in der Gemeinde Jussy, der niedrigste Punkt (360 m ü. M.) ist zugleich der westlichste Punkt der Schweiz und liegt an der Rhône bei Chancy.
English: The Canton of Geneva is the westernmost canton or state of Switzerland, surrounded on almost all sides by France. The official name of this canton in French is République et Canton de Genève. Like some other Swiss cantons (Ticino, Neuchâtel, Jura) this canton calls itself a republic, as part of the Swiss confederation. The canton of Geneva is located in the southwestern corner of Switzerland and is considered one of the most cosmopolitan areas of the country. As a center of the Calvinist Reformation, the city of Geneva had a great influence on the canton, which essentially consists of Geneva and its hinterlands. Since the city of Geneva is the predominant community within the Canton.
