English: Kim Il-sung (15 April 1912 – 8 July 1994) was the leader of North Korea from its founding in early 1948 until his death, when he was succeeded by his son Kim Jong-il. He held the posts of Prime Minister from 1948 to 1972 and President since 1972.

한국어: 김일성 (金日成, 1912년 4월 15일~1994년 7월 8일)은 독립운동가이자 조선민주주의인민공화국의 수상 및 국가주석이었다. 본명은 김성주 (金成柱 또는 金聖柱) 였는데, 항일 투쟁을 하면서 김일성으로 개명 하였다. 한국전쟁을 발발하게 한 장본인으로 부정적인 평가를 받아 왔다. 1994년에 절대권력의 상징이었던 그가 사망하면서 아들 김정일에게 모든 권력을 넘겨주었다.
