Italiano: Lucifero significa letteralmente "Portatore di luce", in quanto tale denominazione deriva dall'equivalente latino lucifer, composto di lux (luce) e ferre (portare), sul modello del corrispondente greco phosphoros (phos=luce, pherein=portare), e in ambito sia pagano che astrologico esso indica la cosiddetta stella del mattino, cioè il pianeta Venere che, mostrandosi al crepuscolo, è anche identificato con questo nome. In specie nella corrispondenza tra divinità greche e romane il pianeta Venere era impersonificato nella figura mitologica del dio greco Phosphoros e del dio latino Lucifer.
